​《금파리, 경성을 날다》는 1930년대 경성 사계절의 일상을 담은 오숙진 작가의 그래픽 전시이다. 근대 도시로 변모해 가는 경성의 사계절 일상을 담은 오숙진 작가의<1930 경성 모던라이프>는 당시의 건축, 주거환경, 소비문화, 인물, 패션, 음식 등 생활 전반에 대한 철저한 고증을 바탕으로 탄생하였다. 글은 당시에 발간된 <별건곤> 등 근대잡지에 소개된 경성 이야기를 발췌하여 새롭게 엮었고, 그림은 사실적인 묘사를 지양하고 심플한 그래픽으로 표현하여 독자가 당시의 생활상을 보다 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 했다.

​이 책의 안내자는 금파리다. 금파리는 방정환 선생이 잡지 <개벽>에 기고한 짤막한 소설 <사회풍자 은파리> 에 등장하는 은파리에서 모티브를 얻어 탄생하였다. 금파리가 보여주는 1930년대 경성의 생활상을 한마디로 요약한다면, 아마도 혼재(混在)가 아닐까 싶다. 남대문을 비켜 지나가는 소달구지와 자동차, 두루마기에 맥고모자, 치마저고리에 굽 높은 구두, 신문물이 가져다준 풍요와 여전한 가난. 이렇듯 낡고 오래된 것과 낯설고 새로운 것의 끝없는 충돌이 이 시대 경성인들의 삶을 관통한다. 금파리와 함께 경성을 유람한 독자들은 인간 삶의 모습이 90년 전과 지금이 크게 다르지 않다는 것에 놀랄 것이다. 급변하는 시대라는 공통점이 있고 더 나은 삶에 대한 기대라는 인간 보편의 욕망이 있기에 경험하지 못한 시대임에도 불구하고 어렵지 않게 그 시대를 상상하고 그들의 삶에 공감할 수 있다.

​금파리는 서울시청이 서 있는 바로 이곳의 과거 속으로 관객을 초대한다. 안내자 금파리를 따라 경성의 핫플레이스, 인사이더를 만나다 보면 어느덧 관객은 근대 도시 경성의 한가운데 있음을 발견할 것이다. 살아 숨 쉬는 근대의 언어와 매력적인 그래픽으로 완성된 이 전시가 경성을 만나는 새롭고 즐거운 경험이 되었으면 하는 바람이다.

《Goldfly, Flying to Kyungsung 》 is an exhibition introducing the works of artist Sukchin Oh in the graphic book <1930 Kyungsung Modern Life>. This book, which contains the daily lives of the four seasons of Kyungsung, which is transforming into a modern city, was born based on a thorough examination of all aspects of life such as architecture, residential environment, consumer culture, people, fashion, and food at the time. The text was newly compiled by excerpting the stories of Kyungsung introduced in modern magazines such as Byeolgeongon published at the time. And the illustrations avoid realistic descriptions and express simple graphics so that readers can more intuitively understand the life of the time.

The guide of this book is the Goldfly. Goldfly was created with the motif of Silverfly appearing in the short novel written by Jeonghwan Bang for the magazine Gaebyeok. The lifestyle of Kyungsung in the 1930s, introduced by Goldfly, is probably a mixture. Oxcarts and cars passing by Namdaemun, Korean topcoat with panama hat, high-heeled shoes with Chima Jeogori, abundance and poverty, and so on. In this way, the endless clash of the old and the new penetrates the lives of Kyungsung people in this era. Readers who toured Kyungsung with Goldfly will be surprised to see that human life is not much different from what it was 90 years ago. Even though it is an era that we have never experienced because of the commonalities of the rapidly changing era and the universal human desire for a better life, we can easily imagine that era and empathize with their lives.

Goldfly invites the audience into the past where Seoul City Hall stands. By following the guide Goldfly to meet Insider and visit a Hot place in Kyungsung, the audience will find that they are in the middle of the modern city of Kyungsung. Artist Sukchin Oh hopes that this exhibition, completed with vivid modern language and attractive graphics, will be a new and enjoyable experience to meet Kyungsung.
